Rock music is a genre that encompasses a wide range of sounds, meaning that speakers intended to play rock should be well-rounded. Magnepans are considered one of the best, most multipurpose speakers on the mark, able to handle good bass, sharp midranges and trebles in frequencies so high humans can't hear them.
Magnepan makes boxless speakers. Most models, such as the MMG, can't handle frequencies much lower than 50 hz. While good enough for most listeners, the true rock enthusiast, who demands awesome bass, is going to want to pair his Magnepans with a subwoofer.
Magnepan's virtuosity and relatively cheap price has caused CNet to labeled them the world's most perfect speaker. Their ability to handle a wide range of sound makes them perfect for rock. For example, if you like the band Rush, Magnepan's are equipped to handle Geddy Lee's falsetto voice and his booming bass, as well as Neil Pert's unparalleled drumming.
