I've seen a couple previews and all I can say is that Doctor Who seems to be doing what so many shows do these days: switching fanbases from the original core to "fresh young faces", which is not always a good move and can alienate (literally in this case) the core fanbase. The Doctor has been getting steadily younger (the Companions have always been young). I fully expect Matt Smith's replacement to be a high school age actor to play a Doctor Who who looks 13 (despite still being a few decades over 900). Gotta get the teenage girl crowd hooked on Doctor Who, you see, to round out the viewer demographics.

Of course, Stephen Moffat wrote all the episodes I really liked in the last Doctor Who seasons (especially "Blink") so I may well be able to tolerate Teenage Doctor Who because of the writing. Mind you, if Captain Jack doesn't show up to ogle Matt Smith's Doctor, the show will seriously lose credibility in my opinion.

I'm not reserving judgement. I've watched the first seven episodes and can tell you I'm not Impressed. Don't get me wrong I'm sure Matt Smith Is a fine actor but definitely not Doctor Who material. Let alone a suitable follow up to David Tennant. I personally think that If your going to take the new series and turn It Into the hit It became, then aren't you (the Director, Producers, and Writers) (Steven Moffet) obligated to find a actor that can uphold the standards that were set and portrait by Tennant. Don't you think you owe It to the fans, the ratings, and the persona that Doctor Who Is. Why would you take something that's not broken and try to fix It.
Doctor Who became the hit show It was always meant to be. I have been a fan of the show since the early 70's and never thought that any actor would ever be better then Tom Baker, he was my Doctor as I grew up. Yet out of loyalty to the show I kept watching even after he regenerated and I always will. But that being said; when David Tennat took over as the Doctor I was blown away from the get go. He was what the show needed and the fans went crazy for David Tennant, and the new series. Doctor who was now main stream not that cheesy, campy show that began In the early 60's. It Is now one of the greatest Sci-Fi shows of our time. Now again I address the Issue of owing Its fans some actor who can bring the show to the next level. Why would you take a step backwards and put It back In the shadows. Find a actor that Is of the same caliber as Tennant. Find an actor that can keep the show going for many years to come. I'm sorry but Matt Smith Is not that actor. Don't get me wrong the writing is still top notch Steven Moffet has done a wonderful job as head writer but failed with Matt Smith. I also like Russell T Davies as a writer and think If the two of them would work together the show would reach new heights, but only with the right actor portraying the Doctor. Furthermore the BBC should have just forked over the money to pay Tennant then we wouldn't be In this situation to begin with. He Is worth every penny and could have even taken the show to the big screen. In closing, I think that the BBC, Steven Moffet and the (POWERS THAT BE) have made an Epic Fail!

Saturday cannot come quick enough! Dr Who is a major event in my home. I like the look of Matt Smith and think he looks very interesting and different - almost alien! I think Stephen Moffat wrote some of the best new Dr Who's so far, I am excited by what he may have come up with. The Dr Who format, like the man himself, has to regenerate to keep it interesting.
