Nobody is worthy of respect because of their title, office, position, etc. Respect is something that must be earned and that old prune in a dress has most certainly not earned mine.

I think almost everyone is worthy of respect. Respecting someone as a human being does not mean you have to agree with them.

Everyone is worthy of respect until proven otherwise. I don't know the Pope, but I do know I would not kiss anyone's ring for any reason. Unless I got paid alot of money. Nobody deserves THAT much respect, well, except maybe Elvis, but he's dead.

The current Pope lost his respectability when it became clear that he actively covered up the sexual abuse of children.

I do respect those persons who serve others with humility and selflessness. Those who to put it simply walk the talk.

I come from a Catholic family and am the first person in my family to not be married in the church. I did however attend Mass with my Grandmother Schneider regularly when she was alive. I did it out of respect for her. Her faith was an important part of her life and I loved her. There was no question about my attendance even long after it was clear that I no longer believed.

Of course! All human beings are worthy of respect. We are made in the image of God. The pope is Christ's vicar on Earth. He represents Jesus Christ. Some people who don't respect the pope don't even respect Jesus, so what can we expect? I vote YES!

well we should respect all opinions.. no matter if we agree with them, we should try to understand them.

as for Pope, ok respect him, but i don't agree with everythong he says. for example, last year he said that people in africa must not use condom!! and everybody there dies from AIDS..!! ok THAT made me so angry... :@

The current pope still hasn't accomplished anything worthy of my respect. The Dalai Lama was able to stop the whole nation of Tibet from wearing tiger skins just by saying how ashamed he was of it--they literally took of their furs and burned them in heaps in public. The pope can't even stop his priests from touching little boys. Get with the program pope.

All human beings are worthy of respect.

If you are referring to his title and position, that's different.

Respect is earned and he hasn't done that yet. Just because he's the "head" of the Catholic church doesn't make him any better than anyone else nor does it give him instant respectability.

He is worthy of as much respect as any other person. He is really old and I don't think he has much of a say, at all, at the vatican. I think he is told what to say and do.

From a Christian perspective my answer would be no, he is not worthy of respect nor trust, both of which are earned not handed out on the basis of the office that you hold or the pomp and ceremony that go's with it. To be frank, I trust the Pope about as far as I can toss the Vatican.

He is SUPPOSE to be the HOLY FATHER.
How much more despicable can a position of AUTHORITY be misused, covering up
SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN, a serious crime. THIS IN MY VIEW IS MISUSE OF GODLY GIVEN AUTHORITY.
Everyone is worthy of love and compassion. Respect? hm.... such a dual term.
