Question

Help answer this question below.

What are system error memory dump files? Where can I find them? Why do they take so long to find, when running DiskCleanup on Vista SP2?

When Vista was SP1, it never used to find these files? What's going on? What are they? They keep popping up, every time my computer runs Disk Cleanup, and it takes my computer an awful long time to find these(and this computer is a Dual Core Intel Pentium processor).

Memory dump files are files automatically generated when the operating system encounter a situation that should be impossible (eg: -2 active processes). The file contain a 'snapshot' of the computers memory as it was when the system decided a memory dump was needed.

To Laymen they are entirely useless, and so they are usually deleted (again automatically) as soon as it is clear that there is no systems programmer who wants to see them.
A competent systems programmer can go through them and hopefully get an idea of what went wrong.

I rather think you are mistaken when you say they take a long time for the file system to find. Most likely what happen is that the memory dump file have already been deleted when you ask, and then on repeated asking you do not get one until a new error happen causing a new memory dump file to be generated.
