There is always a risk factor to using your credit cards, whether the credit user is worried about identity theft or getting into debt. On one hand, according to many financial specialists, it is dangerous to impulse shop on a credit card, to buy items way outside of a person's budget on a card. It is also dangerous to use a card on an unsecured website.
On the other hand, staying within 30 percent of your credit limit, is considered a good idea by a number of credit analysts. It is also considered a good idea to buy items that you need using your credit, and then paying off your card. This builds your credit. It also builds your credit to maintain a low credit card balance. Some credit cards offer perks, cash back or frequent flier miles.
In short, credit cards can be useful for increasing your credit score, if, and only if, they are used in moderation and responsibly in coherence with what the credit user can actually afford.
