The Chicago Department of Aviation suggests checking in 90 minutes prior to departure time for domestic flights and 120 minutes prior to departure time for international flights. Airlines such as Southwest recommend checking in at least 120 minutes prior to all flights. Airlines serving Midway Airport offer online check-in prior to arriving at the airport. Passengers are able to print their boarding pass and, if not checking bags, bypass the ticket counter entirely. Passengers who have not checked in online may utilize self-service kiosks at the airport to avoid waiting for a ticket agent. While it is entirely possible to avoid the airline ticket counter, passengers must still contend with the security checkpoint where wait times are unpredictable. Arriving at the recommended check-in time will provide passengers the best chance of boarding their scheduled flight. Chicago Department of AviationOn One Hand: Official Recommendations
