    Over and Out

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, devillishese. (What's this?)

There was much more of a "family" feel with the old AB.

Not so much anger, immaturity and sniping at each other.

Of course, there were spats and problems back then too ... but generally people were much friendlier and more supportive of each other.

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, devillishese. (What's this?)

Been here only 2 years while ab is evolving into something that it is today. I say it is evolving because I often hear old members talk of the good ol'days of the site - the seemingly glorious days of yore, and it makes me wonder what happened here. If the good old days were much different from what it is now, then I could only imagine I have missed a lot, I guess...

Is it about the maturity of questions and answers? Were the old ab'ers serious about their questions?
I find there is a mix of serious and frivolous, albeit funny questions from would-be comedians here now. Even waboo, the frustrated comedian, is trying his best to come up with questions that make people fart. hahaha. But I find them relaxing at times when that happens particularly when there's a binge of silly questions and everyone else is making efforts to stir in the pot simultaneously. After all, there must be some form of entertainment here somewhere, not only the intellectual questions that some people crave so much. We can learn from one another through funny and serious situations.

I wonder what it's like in the old days back then?
Mrs. Cleaver here says it was like a family feeling back then and everyone seems courteous and mindful of the others. And what about now?

I joined in the death throws of the old format. I prefer this layout and there are some great people here. I do believe that the people who contribute to a site make it what it is and have to take the bad with the good or move on.

The blue is certainly cool but at times I miss the yellow layout. I agree with Mrs. C it was homelier in the old days.

Change is a part of life and has to be accepted. I used to have a lot more personal interaction with the users in those days. Most askers woul post a comment below their answers and there was a lot more one to one interaction. I miss that most.

Now a days its just answer and except for a very very selected few who comment its done.

I think one of the things that worked better back then was the immediacy of posting. You could actually carry on an intelligent conversation with postings back and forth, about a subject. If you had a question it would be answered quickly and you would know it and be able to catch that person still on and talk to them about it. Also you could tell by the 'expert' listing on the side of each category who might know about a certain subject and maybe seek them out. I know that I appreciated those that were good at certain cars or travel subjects and would hope to get a good answer from them.

Commenting was quicker too so you could really get into a topic with others. Yes, it often caused some trouble because it was just as quick to insult people instead of having time to think about it, but I think it made for a more alive and vital place than this slow to respond place.

A little, but not that much, anymore. ;-)

I miss many of those who left at the changeover more.

    buxtonite ..slowly losing my mind

I came back to AB not long ago, after going AWOL after they decided to (cough) revamp AB .. I was one of many who left because of the way it was done. I am still not overly impressed with it ( for a number of reasons ) but since money talks and members opinions don't we are stuck with it.
