Superficially, coffee and Adderall have similar stimulative effects, such as irritability, nervousness and elevated heart rate. However, Adderall, as an amphetamine, derives its stimulative effect from the brain rather than the body, like caffeine. Consequently, it has additional side effects resembling schizophrenia in some persons and can cause heart failure in children. Excessive caffeine consumption is suspected as a cause in certain vitamin deficiencies and organ dysfunction. Long-term coffee drinkers can acquire a thiamine deficiency, for example. The acids in coffee can also counteract medications for depression or obesity, so consult your doctor before starting such a regimen. Coffee, drunk to excess, is not good for you. But it is not comparable to the risks associated with prescription amphetamines such as Adderall. On One Hand: Adderall is Much More Dangerous
On the Other: Coffee Is Still Dangerous
