Estrogen may reduce the amount of Requip absorbed by the body. According to GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of Requip, studies found that the oral clearance of Requip was reduced by 36 percent in patients taking both medications.
The interaction between estrogen and Requip isn't dangerous, and can be corrected by adjusting the dose of Requip a patient takes. Because less of the drug is absorbed when estrogen is taken, increasing the dose to compensate for this interaction should not worsen or cause additional side effects.
Patients who are already taking estrogen when they begin taking Requip should not be affected by this interaction; the dosage of Requip is normally adjusted several times until symptoms are controlled. However, if a patient begins taking or stops taking estrogen during treatment with Requip, the dosage of Requip may need to be changed.
