Well first off, I don't think that Imus should be the one singled out for making racial comments. The fact of the whole matter is, is that Imus is a white man, who attempted to crack a joke that failed miserably... and was then ostracized for it. I think many of us jump the gun, we are quick to react and respond to impulse, instead of thinking things through. If this country has such great resolve, where is it? I may be blynd, but im not stupid.

Ask yourselves this, why do we single out Imus, when we have all these african american comedians, artists, and musicians sluring out racial words like nigger, whitey, cracker, chink, spic, mook, jiggaboo, do I need to go on? Are our lives so pathetic, that we have to make somthing up to feel justified?

Oh, but you say that we know that a comedian that says chink, nigger, cracker, redneck or whatever, is only saying it in harmless fun! Well if that's a fact, who is it then who decides what is harmless fun and what is not? Mr. Sharpton? The Rutgers Basketball team? Howard Stern? or how bout Trey Parker and Matt Stone? Or do we just buckle down like Mr. Sharpton wants us to and hand over our freedom of speech to the FCC. Which by the way, does not have the term "nappy headed hoe's" on their bad words list.

This racial bigotry has gone on for years people, and it's not going to stop... ever! But wait, what does Al Sharpton want to do about it? He's going to single handedly save us all from such hateful language, you know what he wants to do folks? Let me preach the gospel to ya brothers and sisters, here's what this fat lazy self important bastard wants to do. He wants to pass the buck onto the FCC which regulates such behavior, wow, imagine that, instead of passing it on to african and fellow americans like you and me who are the root of the problem for buying into this type of drivel, he's going to petition the FCC. Ya know what the FCC is going to do folks? The same as they always do, not a goddamn thing, either that, or they'll get off their butts and start fining and closing down radio stations, there goes your freedom of speech.

Oh no, Imus is not alone at all, we are all guilty of being racist, because all of us allow it, it's just harmless fun,.... right? I have nothing against Imus or Mr. Sharpton, I never listened to not one minute of their babble. I find them both boring and mundane, but I will say this, Sharpton is just as guilty of promoting racism, just as much as he stated Imus did. Imus is no more than a political target, for another mans agenda, and the nappy headed hoes at Rutgers are just the unwitting pawns on the chess board.

    Your move.

Sunblynd is an equal opportunity racist.

No, it wasn't just. The rules they kicked him off for aren't consistent for the people who are outraged against him.

It's all free speech, and what he was saying wasn't even out of hate. It was a corny joke and there's worse problems for those people to worry about.

And yes, i mean THOSE PEOPLE as in the people against Imus. The crazy people against him who happen to be black.

    EDIT:
Anthony Cumia had some good points on this stuff this morning (April 13, 2007):

You don't have the right in this country to be not offended. There is no amendment saying you have the right not to get your feelings hurt.

It becomes an infringement on your freedom of speech when these people don't like what your saying and then use mob tactics (terror) and hold a cloud of fear that if you say these words, your livelihood will be taken away based on nothing more than the fact that THEY are personally offended. That is the ultimate of protected speech.

Why would the first amendment protect speech that everyone enjoys?
Speech that needs protection is speech that some may find offensive, some might not agree with, but it's America. You're allowed to say it without the fear that your livelihood (the pursuit of happiness) in this country will be taken away from you. And we live in this time where a victory has been chalked up, blood is in the water, and we're seeing a feeding frenzy.

Everyone in the media is now the fresh meat in the water. Radio personalities, anyone.

    Un-American. Racist. Insane. Hypocritical.

Yes, he should have been fired a long time ago. Yes, he has the right of free speech,, just like you and me. But CBS also has the right not to use him on their programs. It is not okay to insult defenseless people--in this case hard working students who worked their asses off to get into Rutgers and then who maintaied grades ranging from good to excellent.

What makes a man toss insults at others weaker than himself? It's not the same as when he attacks people at his own level like Clinton or Bush, or Martha Stewart, or Sharpton or Jackson. They are public figures with their own platforms.

Now the fact, that Jackson and Sharpton have the same problem in their pasts -- Jackson with his "Hymeetown" joke, and Sharpton with his attacks on Jewish Merchants in Harlem, is not relevant. They are hypocrites; but this doesn't make Imus' remarks okay.

I think the whole situation sucks. His comments may not have been politically correct, but what about all you hear in song lyrics these days? Who's pissed off about them? Do you see any racial parties protesting Rappers & their trashy comments? Oops, Imus made the mistake to have a "target". That was his mistake. He made it personal. And he's now paying for that.

Yeah. Now he can get a hair cut and a face lift and a personality change and he can reinvent himself and get right back on the air with another network with a different format.
I never heard of him until I saw what happened in the news this week.
I could care less. He's got a hell of a lot more money than I do.

I think that Howard Stern should offer him a job as a sidekick on his show. After all, what a better way to bury the hatchet. Daily in Imus' back. LOL

Was firing Imus fair?.. Perhaps not. Was what he said fair?..Absolutely not. Comparing one wrong to another has never made a right, no more than 2+2 will ever equal 5. Man in his infancy has "still yet" to grasp the consequences of his actions.

NO! Cause other radio talkshow host have said worst then he has or did. If any talk-radio personnel should have been fired it should have been Dr.Laura. She says worst to the people who have called her show. I would listen to Imus before I would ever listen to Dr.Laura.

Yes, I think it is fair. He was quite nasty. He had a job to do, and instead he kept saying things that were very rude that he should not have had.
