What are the Benefits of Volunteering as opposed to a regular paid summer job?

You can do both, get a part time job AND Volunteer...job = cash which you need. And
Vol. you get satisfaction from helping others, looks good on future resumes.

I did both but mine was School (community college) and different volunteering. I recall it was tough. (time wise)But well worth it.

summer job= cash
volunteering looks good on a resume(especially if its in the area you want a career in) and college application.
it really depends on you, but if you can't decide why don't you do a parttime job and mark one or two days off a week on your availiablity and use those days to volunteer.

- Well, the reason i asked is because it's hard for me to get a job. no one is hiring, or at least not hiring me. so i need something to do over the summer and that may be volunteering.

- then volunteering would be a good plan, also you might wanna get babysitter certified and post something in your nearest supermarket. could be a good way to get some money during the summer. good luck, and i know what you mean about the jobs, it took me two and a half months to find an entry level position ANYWHERE.

- the last time i babysat, i took a community class for it, it had first aid and a whole bunch of other stuff.
