Robert Frost is considered one of America's greatest poets. His poems, and their meaning, are studied in schools and universities across the world. Almost every Frost poem directly talks about, or alludes to, nature. Many of his poems take place in the woods or deal with trees. In addition to nature, Frost also uses people throughout many of his poems. Frost uses nature and people in his poems because these two subjects can be related to by the reader. The reader can easily visualize the imagery when Frost speaks about the trees and the seasons, and the reader can empathize and relate to the humans and the different experiences noted throughout the poems. Frost liked to write poems that have multiple meanings. On the surface, he liked to create poetry that the reader could relate to and understand. By writing about nature and human beings, Frost would manipulate the reader into putting himself into the poem and feeling the poetry as it is read. In addition to Frost trying to get his reader to relate to his work, he also tried to get the reader to think about something beyond what is on the surface of his text. Frost used his poetry to make the reader think about more complex issues, such as spiritual, behavioral and psychological elements of human beings. Just when you think that you are starting to understand Frost's work, he throws a contradiction at you. Throughout his poetry, Frost uses language to create contradictions and misguided representations. As a result, even some of the most dedicated scholars cannot find the meaning of Frost's poems; it was Frost's nature to be elusive and to have a tendency to play with words.
