  • The rumor...that domesticated turkeys are so stupid that, upon feeling the first drop of rain, they will look up at the sky, fascinated. They will continue looking straight up into the rain, with their mouths open, until they drown. The facts...that turkeys don't look up to see, they have eyes on either side of their head, in order to 'see' they would tilt their head. Secondly, where this rumor might have originated from, domesticated turkeys are kept indoors for the first portion of their lives and then ushured outside. If it rains before they learn how to cope in their new outside enviroment, they will usually panic and fling themselves about...resulting in the entire ' I'm drowning!' thought... If you really get down to it, yes a Turkey could drown in the rain...IF...said Turkey also was prehapes unconcious beakdown in a puddle full of water or some other weird circumstance...
  • NO they can't, though they really hate the sound of thunder. It will set them all to gobbling and a bit of panic. And that can cause them to pile up on each other if your pen or cage has corners and they may smother the ones on the bottom. That is why for the first few weeks you keep them safely in round pens with NO corners. They are not the brightest birds.
  • They sure can if it rains hard enough causing a flood or if they get stuck in a puddle or something like that. They're not the smartest of the birds.
  • No, but they can hurt each other and themselves trying to get out of the rain. They panic easy. I think turkeys may have coined the phrase "bird brain".
  • What a FOWL way to go!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA.
