Do I have to claim child support on my income taxes?

    If you receive child support payments, they do not have to be included on your Form 1040 as income.

    NO, it's not taxed like income.

    However, who can claim the children is determined by the courts. In general, the custodial parent claims the children as dependents on taxes UNLESS they fill out the proper tax form to allow the non-custodial parent to claim them as exemptions OR unless the courts made a written ruling in the divorce decree as to which children are to be claimed as tax exemptions by which parent.
