    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: They are Reliable

Intelligence quotient tests have a long history of development and application making them among the best instruments for testing specific kinds of cognitive development. People who take IQ tests reliably receive very similar scores upon multiple attempts.

On the Other: They Don't Really Measure "Intelligence".

IQ tests measure only a few small bands in the spectrum most educators and psychologists refer to as "intelligence". They are also easily skewed by racial, cultural and language factors.

    Bottom Line

IQ tests are valid measures of what most diagnostic experts believe they measure. However, they neither comprehensively nor exclusively measure what most of the general public believes they do: raw, whole-brain intelligence.
