On One Hand: Some Report Pain After Taking Immodium

Not only do the makers of Immodium list pain as a side effect for their medicine, but users on a variety of stomach discomfort Web sites have complained of pain when taking the product. Immodium works, according to its manufacturer, by "slowing down the movement of food through the small intestine." In some cases, this slowing causes bloating, gas or pain.

On the Other: Relatively Few Experience Pain

Though pain is a possible side effect of Immodium, all drugs have side effects, and very few people experience pain when using Immodium. Chances are that if you take Immodium infrequently to combat occasional bouts of stomach distress, you are unlikely to have a problem.

    Bottom Line

Immodium does cause pain in certain instances, but those are relatively rare. Most people using the product as instructed will likely have no ill effects from the product.
