The process to begin programming any Toyota garage door opener is the same regardless of the garage door opener model that you own. You will, however, have to have the original remote that you use to activate the garage door opener, as this is what you will use to send the opener's code to the Toyota device. To start, press and hold the two outer-most buttons on the Toyota opener's console until the indicator light on the unit begins to flash. This should take about 20 seconds at the most. Then you will need to hold the hand-held remote to your garage door in front of the Toyota's opener buttons and at the same time press the hand-held remote's button as well as the Toyota's button that you wish to program. Keep both buttons pressed until the indicator light on the Toyota's opener panel begins to flash rapidly. This will again take about 20 seconds. With many models of garage door opener this will be enough to complete the programming process. Test it out by pressing and briefly holding the Toyota's garage opener button that you just programmed. If the indicator light turns on and remains solid, the programming is complete. At this stage your garage door should also activate, signifying that the button has been properly programmed. If, however, the indicator light blinks for a few seconds before becoming solid it means you have a garage door opener model that uses rolling codes. This is a relatively new system that many garage door opener units are now built with. Programming the Toyota opener to a rolling code is easy, but best done with two people as you only will have a small window of time to teach the Toyota's buttons the code.
You'll need to locate the "trainer" button on the actual garage door opener motor unit that's mounted on your garage ceiling. Depending on the model of opener you own, this button can be located in various areas. It's usually a larger red button located in an easily-reached spot on the back of the unit, but if you're unsure you should consult the opener's user manual. Once you find this button, simply press it to activate the "training" mode. At this point you will only have about 30 seconds to get back to your vehicle to program the Toyota's button. This is where having someone already in the vehicle can come in handy. With the opener's "training" mode activated, press and release the button on the Toyota's opener that you wish to program. This will "teach" it the rolling code sequence. Press and release it once more to complete the programming.
