I found a poem called Dark Land of Light by Michelle Ladd. I don't know if it's the one you want
Dark Land Of Light / Michelle Ladd
Andalucia, land of lucid light
Painters dream you
See in your rugged scrapes
Al-Andaluz’s moon washed cities rising from the plains
Guarded by keyhole studded fierce yellow walls
Bastions of that glorious heathen past
Dali’s bone bleached deserts
Picasso’s motherland.
In the hot velvet night
When sleep is hounded by heat
Thick enough to cut
Your bittersweet song
Drifts from the hill like perfume on the breeze
Echoes of Moorish yesteryears float in flamencos’
mournful wails
Mingle the mullah’s call to prayer
With the sound of tragedy and love
Dark gypsies’ staccato heels chase rhythms of steel
guitars
Brave bulls fight lusty men
Whose flaming capes
Mock and madden
Till – on their knees –
They take the final cut.
Blood roses weep in the dust
Your duende seduces
Lovers of death
Drawn to your bloody history
Riddled with bullets of freedom
Cold priests extortions
Inquisitors pitiless tools
Yet still survive
The pains of broken brotherhood
Soothed by the sent of ore

Hello booknight
I found out that this was in fact a poem written by Kate Roberts - not sure how Michelle Ladd got the credit for it...
I told her I would try and have the answer changed accordingly - let me know if too late to modify it.. thanks!

I usually include my source in my answers and I don't know why I forgot to with this one.

Unfortunately it's too late for me to edit my answer. Editing has to be done within 10 minutes of posting. AB staff can remove my answer. I don't know the procedure to have them remove an incorrect answer.
Please tell her I sincerely apologize for the mistake.

Thank you so much! She is modest and will probably not ask AB to do that. Having been published for a different type of writing, I can appreciate the frustration of not receiving due credit. it happens... thanks though!
