Random Access Memory (RAM) allows a computer to store program information in a location that the computer can quickly access with minimal delays. Because, according to ScienceText.com, a web browser runs from RAM, increasing the amount of random access memory in a computer allows the browser to hold more information and more quickly load web pages.
Though increasing RAM can make a web browser load more quickly, Internet professionals recommend other methods for improving web page download speeds. Internet reference site WebReference.com recommends using a cache, rather than RAM, to store elements from a website so that site will load more quickly on future visits. Similarly, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore recommends a device called a "web accelerator" that employs unused bandwidth to fetch graphics from unloaded pages on websites that users visit.
Additional RAM may make a difference in how quickly the web browser loads, but it is not likely to increase web page download speeds.
