I like salt in & on my food. I'm very healthy per my Dr. I read conflicting info on salt. Is salt "bad" for you? Sea salt vs. regular Mor*on's uniodized salt? Advantages to sea salt or no differences for healthy people?

    Healthy people can eat moderate amounts of salt (6 - 12 grams a day of salt). Most people in the world eat this amount. Salt is essential for life. Iodine is too. If your diet is iodine deficient, use iodized salt. Iodine deficiency in pregnant women means their children will be 12-15 IQ point lower in mental capacity. Sea salt is fine, but lacks iodine.     It depends on who you listen to the Salt Institute put forward research that suggests that there is no problem with using salt. The american health department recommended that no more than 4000 milligrams of salt per day for an average adult it's now been put down to 2400 miligrams. The UK government say say no more than 6 grams of salt a day (obviously the brits have stronger stomachs or something). Overuse of salt has been linked to stomach cancer, hypertension and strokes. Iodine is necessary for healthy balance and I would not recommend removing it from your diet. Uniodized salt is ok as part of a colon cleansing programme.

    If you eat processed food you probably get more than enough salt for your needs without adding salt as well. Sadly once you get a taste for salt food tastes bland without it! Use iodised salt as it helps to prevent iodine deficiency (which can be bad!). Sea salt can contain other minerals on top of sodium, but there is no health benefit to sea salt over regular salt. Salt in excess is bad for you in terms of hypertension. A reduced salt diet in hypertensive people has been shown to be very beneficial.

    i'm not sure, but you do need a certain amount of iodine in your diet, so keep that in mind of you eat uniodized salt...

    White salt is considered white poison in our country. However, people heavily use salt in our ethnic foods. I personally try to avoid salt as much as possible. Don't ask Phillip Morris - if healthy people can smoke.

    You would never see a wild animal using pepper and salt before eating anything. Compare that with humans who have a whole range of health issues. Sodium is already present in everything we eat. Being healthy today does not mean you have a deal for rest of your life. Do more research and come to your own healthy conclusions.

    Salt & Pepper are part of a wide range of acquired taste.
