Slap hammers can be used as burglary tools, particularly for stealing cars. In the early 1980s, a search warrant of a suspected car thief's apartment found a "virtual warehouse of tools and supplies for the auto larceny business, including "slap hammers" for removing car locks and ignitions." This is according to court documents pertaining to case of Bienvenido Bonnet, convicted in New York of transporting stolen cars.
