    On One Hand: Some Models Are Winners

    CNET.com published a "Best 5 Desktops" review in February 2010 that included the HP TouchSmart 600, and Consumer Reports gives the HP Pavilion Elite its second-best ranking among desktops. In its laptop rankings, Consumer Reports puts at least one HP model in the top-five overall in three of its four size classes.

    On the Other: Others Have Issues

    The HP Pavilion dv4-2045dx gets Consumer Reports' worst ranking among 14-inch laptops as of March 2010, and the HP Pavilion MS214 comes in eighth out of 10 models in Consumer Reports' review of all-in-one computers, based largely on its performance rating of "fair."

    Bottom Line

    The expert opinion is that HP computers can be very good or very bad, depending on the model. If consistency from unit to unit is the benchmark, HP cannot be considered categorically good.
