You should never drink alcohol while taking an antidepressant like Effexor, according to the Mayo Clinic. Alcohol could negate the effects of Effexor and even make depressive thoughts worse.
According to EMedTV, Effexor does not seem to intensify the effects of alcohol, such as motor and mental impairment. As long as you drink a safe amount of alcohol--one or two drinks a day for men and one for women--you probably won't experience any bad side effects.
EMedTV recommends consulting with your physician before combining alcohol and Effexor. Also, you may want to wait until you know the effects that Effexor has on your body before consuming alcohol while on the medication.
