There are many baby sleep coaching programs that can work. Kim West, the author of "The Sleep Lady's Good Night Sleep Tight," states that sleep coaching helps babies and toddlers learn how to sleep. Depending on the age of the baby or toddler, there are different approaches. West's approach is based on the Sleep Lady Shuffle, in which the parent progressively moves away from the crib night after night until the parent is out the door. During the progressive evenings, the baby learns how to self-soothe. If sleep programs are not followed consistently over a several-week period, they will not work. Also, if there is a disagreement between parents about which approach is the best for their baby, sleep coaching also will not work. For example, if the mom wants the baby to sleep with the parents in the family bed, and the dad wants the baby to sleep in the crib in the nursery, the infant will likely end up sleeping both in the family bed and in the crib. This will confuse the infant and will likely create bad sleep habits. Sleep programs work, but only if followed consistently over several weeks by both parents. On One Hand: Baby Sleep Coaching Programs Work
On the Other: Some Are Followed Inconsistently
