I imagine that it would have to do with heterosexuals feeling uncomfortable with sharing close, limited quarters, housing, sleeping, dressing, shower rooms etc. Some might feel that would hurt morale. Many times, while being deployed, military units have less than desirable living quarters.

Oh you know, the old "they might rape us in our sleep and that would lower morale argument." Because, as you must know by now, gay people are really all about raping straight people. They do it constantly.

I know when it comes to shower time, I'd be quite scared. How about a gay regiment. Could you imagine them marching? They would have the most stylish uniforms. They would be the closest friends. The enemy would fear them for fear to engayge them in hand to hand combat.

The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself. The only real secular argument againts allowing gays into the arms forces is that it has great potential to divide the troops and cause loss of moral and comradery amongst allies because of the rampant homophobia which tends to be especially pronounced in the types of people who are inclined to join the military. (I.e. Undereducated, overly macho, etc.) And the fact is, there isn't much way to get past that mindset without sacrificing the mindset and training that is so vital in "Good Soldiers". Military recruits are, to a great degree, taught to be xenophobic and aggressive out of neccesity. A "Good Soldier" needs to have a certain ammount of hatred ingrained into them in order to kill well and do so without moral compunction. I'd just like to add here that I have no bias at all againts individuals of differing sexual orientations. If they want to fight, why should anyone care about their sexual orientation? I do however carry a signifigant bias againts the military.

I served in the Marines and I have a lot of LGBT friends. I have seen/heard this argument so many tims it's lost meaning lol. Okay, here's the deal from both sides. If opposed to LGBT military: When you are in the service, the structure is designed to take you away from anything that would distract you from your service. Everything is renamed and you are broken down. If someone is gay and in the service, they still have one thing going for them, shower time. I'm not saying that gay soldiers/marines would instantly rape any hetero they see. What I'm saying is, if someone is gay, and they are in the shower with 100 men, their mind might not be on training/missions. The distraction for them could compromise the others. It's the same reason that people lobby to keep women out of combat. If a male soldier is dating a female soldier and she gets hurt, his mind isn't going to be on the continued fight, it's going to be on helping the person he has feelings for even if it compromises the rest of his unit. I think that there are a lot of gay men that would make fantastic soldiers, but I feel that there are too many distractions for that person that would compromise the security of the rest of the unit. As for those lobbying to get gays in the military: They have every right to fight and die for their beliefs. I believe this to be true, I believe you have the right to do what you see fit, and if that means hiding your orientation to do so...by all means do so, but if you come out of the closet in the service or if you compromise the lives and safety of others, you shouldn't be there. I hope this makes sense, I am very tired
