    I learned english just by asking peope what stuff ment whent they said something example I was clled a basterd so I asked a friend what that meant

    Depends on the original language. If it's a romantic language, maybe a book of cognates/etymology would help (it's helping me with Spanish). There are lots of good ESL websites. You should try googling it.

    Watch Sesame Street. Seriously. Its better for pronunciation and grammar than vocabulary but its still a really great way to learn. As I used to tell my students "Don't learn your English on the streets unless its Sesame Street".
