Government employees are prohibited from giving or soliciting contributions for gifts from their subordinates or superiors. They cannot accept gifts from employees who receive less pay. Exceptions include: gifts costing less than $10 for such occasions as birthdays or souvenirs from a trip, beverages shared in the office or hospitality in an employee's home.
