Help answer this question below.
Front wheel drive is a type of drivetrain used in passenger vehicles. In a front wheel drive vehicle, a front mounted engine transmits power to the front wheels through a transaxle. A front wheel drive vehicle features a transaxle, which combines the functions of the transmission, differential and drive axle in one unit. Having major drivetrain components combined in one part is more efficient, and it allows the entire assembly to take up less space at the front of the vehicle. Power from the engine enters the transaxle at the input shaft and is physically transmitted to the differential and finally the drive wheels, which allow forward motion. A front wheel drive vehicle has the engine mounted directly over the drive wheels. This helps push the drive wheels downward, and can provide additional traction in slippery conditions like rain or snow. Although a front wheel drive vehicle can get better traction than a rear wheel drive vehicle, it is unable to stop any faster. When you drive a front wheel drive vehicle, be sure to leave enough room to make a safe stop in varying conditions.Features
