The Doctrine and Covenants is a volume of revelations received by modern Prophets of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Section 89 is known as the Word of Wisdom.

The Word of Wisdom was "adapted to the capacity of the weak, and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints." The Word of Wisdom forbids the common vices of alcohol, tobacco, and "hot drinks" (meaning coffee and tea). It further advises the consumption of wholesome foods like grains and fruit, and limiting the intake of meat. Illicit drugs are often added to the list of prohibited substances, but they are not specifically mentioned in the revelation.
