  • Thugs lurking in an alley? Where are you walking? I live in New Jersey and go to NYC all the time with my boyfriend and for the most part, he walks next to me closest to the street. Sometimes we switch sides depending on how we turn streets, but he always gravitates back to that position. For the thugs in the alley comment, all I can say is to avoid areas where there might be thugs in an alley (i'm laughing, that sounds so funny). A man locking elbows with his lady should keep her from being yanked into an alley. But really, the place you should be on guard in the city is the subway, especially the empty ones late at night.
  • Way back when before todays regular garbage pick ups waste produce such as wash water were simple thrown out the window. The Man walked on the building side to protect the lady form this unexpect event.
  • Not really. walking anywhere, today, you have to be ever alert to all the surroundings. i believe being courteous is now taking a sideseat to safety, in some circumstances. with a national spiralling crime rate, i would have two men, one on each side, escort you when walking. also, a big dog couldn't hurt, either. courtesy is still no. 1, but safety is knocking on the door, at no. 2.
  • They should buy a decomissioned police car at auction and drive places instead.
