How do I go about cleaning a coffee maker?

My coffee maker is gross and stained and it's really starting to bother me. Problem is, I don't know how to clean it. My mother has already yelled at me several times to trying to clean my coffee grinder (I don't dirty things! so sue me!) Any tips?

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, Mchll0644. (What's this?)

If you have a drip coffee maker
Pour 2 cups of white vinegar in the reservoir (where you normally pour the water)
Turn it on for 30 seconds (this will heat the vinegar and start it dripping)
Turn it off and let it sit for 30 minutes
After 30 minutes turn it on and let it drip into coffee pot
    Discard vinegar
Pour a full coffee pot of water into reservoir and turn on coffee maker
Discard water and repeat with another full coffee pot of water
The inside of your coffee maker is clean :)
DO NOT use any type of soap or cleanser inside your coffee maker

To clean the basket and coffee pot
Soak them in hot water with bleach and laundry detergent
Use a toothbrush on them after soaking for 30 minutes
You can use a cleanser like Ajax on the stubborn stains
Rinse very well.....then rinse again :)

To clean the outside of the coffee maker
Wet a dishcloth in the hot bleach and laundry detergent water and wipe it
Dip the toothbrush in the hot bleach and laundry detergent water and scrub it
Rinse with a damp dishcloth and clean water

If you have another type of coffee maker.....I have no idea how to clean it :)
I don't know how to clean a coffee grinder.
Hope this (long answer) helps :)
