I'm not in the military my husband is. I had a panic attack on the last plane I was on. I cant swollow pills I've never been able to for some reason so i cant take anything to calm me down and things like nyquill keep me awake even though it's suppost to make me sleep. Im moving from Dayton, ohio to baumholder, Gemany. Whats it like there? What do I need to bring my 2 maybe 3cats and dog? Whats the flight like? Any tips you guys can give me I will be greatfull. Thank you.
You should find Germany to be somewhat similar to the American Midwest, but take out the humidity in the summers and the possibility of tornadoes, and it isn't as cold as it is during the winter. There are certain traits that us Americans have adopted from Germans (behavior wise), I'm sure you'll take note of them after a couple of weeks, so I don't think you will find Germany to be some exotic country like China. That doesn't mean that we are the same, though. You'll see. The food is really good for the most part, and if you would rather munch on the nasty fast food that we have introduced to the world then you shouldn't have a problem finding a KFC, Buger King, or a McDs somewhere near you. The cities are great there, especially in the West and South. The beer is pretty good, too. Many say it's the best in the world. I say it's a country that has an obsession with beer. You'll find much truth in both of these statements. I don't know what else to tell you.
You'll be on base anyway, and all of the Americans I know that live in Europe (not Britain) don't seem to be too interested in the country that they live in and they live just fine, and since you'll be with Americans and on an American base most of the time then I don't see why you should worry.
But I would highly recommend that you wouldn't be "like the rest". I would encourage you to get to know German culture and German people and maybe even the language if that's your thing and if you have enough free time, some people are better at learning languages and some are worse. Many Germans speak good English so don't worry about it anyway.
As for the flight, it will take you 9 hours.
For your anxiety ask your doctor for Ativan. They dissolve in your mouth and don't have any taste.
As for Germany, I have no idea. But I'm sure they have Ativan there.
