    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: Not for Everyday Tasks

Everyday tasks, such as Internet browsing, listening to music, word processing and photo editing, will not force your graphics card to consume excessive power. In these situations, 650 watts should be fine even for advanced graphics cards.

On the Other: Advanced Tasks Require Extra Power

During advanced visual tasks, such as 3D gaming, a graphics card can consume around 270 watts, which is probably as much as the rest of the computer system combined. Dual graphics cards are especially power hungry and will consume even more power.

    Bottom Line

Power supplies are not particularly expensive in relation to other computer hardware. An inadequate power supply can cause your system to overheat and crash, so in this case, it is much better to be safe than sorry. If uncertain how much wattage a computer really needs, consult an online power supply calculator (see Resources).
