What I think you meant was: what state capital shares the same name of a famous explorer? That would be Ohio, whos capital is Columbus. Columbus is thought of to find America.

I have 2 possibilities: Delaware From Delaware River and Bay; named in turn for Sir Thomas West, Baron De La Warr Pennsylvania In honor of Adm. Sir William Penn, father of William Penn. It means “Penn's Woodland Wait, I just found out that Baron De La Ware headed a contingent that landed in Jamestown. So now I think it's Delaware.

New York. Sir Johan Q York of Austria was a famous venture capitalist of the era. In German, the language of Austria, rather than calling one's son Junior, one uses the "new" suffix. Thus, Johan's son was New Johan Percival York. He, funded by his father's company, explored much of Canada, Lake Ontario, and New York. It is named after him.
