    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: Around for a Long Time

Acrylic nails are readily available since they've been around for a long time but the chemicals used in applying them smell, they're often difficult to remove and they look fake.

On the Other: Gel Nails are New

Gel nails may be difficult to find and more expensive since they're new but they look more natural and the process doesn't smell like a chemical spill.

    Bottom Line

Gel nail extensions look natural and won't damage your own nails.

Gels are by far more harder on your real nails then acrylic...they are more expensive too. They don't usually take as long to apply but do much more damage to your real nails.
A good and reputable salon will do a sample for you...go in and ask to have one of your nails done in a Gel and one in an Acrylic with a tip and one Acrylic or Gel .. sculpted and see which you like the best and if any damage is done when they come off. They all do damage to your real nails over time and this some times is not correctable.
