Question

Help answer this question below.

I have small bumps all over my face that are the same color as my skin. I've tried exfoliating and my skin is very dry. What are these and how do I get rid of them?

Most likely this is a condition known as acne comedonica, where the sebaceous glands under the pores get clogged, and all the gunk is trapped under the skin, which is why it's the same color as the rest of your skin. It's somewhat difficult to treat this (I have had mild cases myself), but what I have found that works myself is using a homeade aspirin mask--you buy regular, uncoated white aspirin tablets, and dissolve them in a SMALL amount of water so you have a paste, which you rub on your skin. Let it sit for about five minutes, then rinse off. Use it about once or twice a week---you'll be floored by how well it works, both physically and chemically(it contains acetylsalicylic acid, which is basically a cousin of our friend salicylic acid). Also, you should use a daily skin moisturizer with 2% salicylic acid, which helps keep anything that could clog your pores off. You might also go to a dermatologist and get them PROFESSIONALLY extracted. You can use benzoyl peroxide stuff on them (use the 10% concentration or less), but it won't do a whole lot except make them a little smaller. This is due to the clogging being underneath the skin---the benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria and dries up oil, but with comedones, the medicine can't even get in, since the clogging is in the sebaceous gland, which is below the pore itself. Lastly, you should go to a dermatologist and get a glycolic acid cream, since it does the same thing as salicylic acid, but it's a little stronger, so it penetrates deeper.

well i have them too on my fore head, cheek bones and chin. i think it is either damage from sun exposure like someone said because i have just been working abroad for the last 8 months or an allergic reaction but i think it might just be spots?? i wash my face constantly and always exfoliate and also used moisturizer and sudacrem daily. sudacrem really help with clearing up the skin and its dead cheap. But ive just bought some asprin so lets just wait and see if this works!!
I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help x

I think I have the same bumps you are talking about. They are small, round, skin-colored, and do not leave. I've had them for years and seen two different dermatologists- both who told me they weren't sure what the bumps were but that they were not cancerous. I've had some removed- and they grew back. I get a few more every couple of years. I absolutely hate them and really want to see a plastic surgeon to see if there is anything I can do. The only problem is that I'd hate to have surgery only for more bumps to grow. If anyone knows anything about a good solution I'd love to know!!

I have them from time to time. I think it's caused by a variety of things; sun exposure, heat, allergies. I get rid of them by using cool water to wash my face and a gentle face cleanser (gel, foam,.. not st.ives scrub). I also mosturize my face afterwards. It goes away in a couple of days (1-4 days). I hope this helps.

YES! I SO know what you mean! I find it interesting that some are recommending Salycylic acid because I seem to get this same strong reaction as described above from those very products. I thought my only hope was Benzoyl Peroxide products. Culprits appeared to be Nutrogena (the orange formulas with SA), Dermafree, Sensiclear, and others I can't think on. Nutrogena also has gentle formula's in blue bottles that are soap and perfume free, etc. Great for makeup removal but I still have acne, BUT no "allergic" reactions either. I've been on Proactive and am not sure what's going on. I think I'm overdried...Aaaagh!

Yeah I'm having the same problem with this one bump on my forehead. It's been there for about a month and a half now and its just driving me crazy now. I've been using a scrub, cleanser, and a toner but nothing seems to be working. Are there any alternatives to add to this?? I can't see a dermatologist since I'm not insured so that makes this a bit more complicated.

I am not sure if its the same thing but I have these same color raised tiny bumps on my face and they are itchy from time to time. They are somewhat hard and they come several at a time. I don't know if its an allergic reaction but I never had this problem before! The worse part is my wedding is coming up soon and I am more stressed out than ever!

Strange as it may sound, I had a mild case of acne and decided to buy Clearasil pads. Instead of helping my face it made these tiny bumps appear ALL OVER my face. Some are so tiny that if you squeeze them only a clear fluid comes out. None the less I'm certain it's caused from the Clearasil. Wont be using them again.

I have them right now, and I found out that it was an allergic reaction to my shampoo, if you have anything that burns your face or makes it red STOP USING IT right away if it is a reaction the most useful way for me to make it better was to wash my face but I'm not a professional dermatologist or anything.

try going to a doctor, they could give you a steroid injection. that should make it go way down, if not use a clean wash cloth and apply very warm water to the problem area for 15 mins every hour or so. good luck i have it to, nothing seems to work im still desperate for answers.

i went to the doctor and they told me to use a clean wash cloth and very warm water and apply a little pressure to the area, it should make it a little smaller, it will be red after but, once the red goes away it should be down at least on size. also if that does not work or if it makes it worse go to the doctor and they should give you steroid injection right in the problem area and that should make it go away, just do a walk in to the er and they could prob see u right away. if you know anything else please do tell.

I have used Murad, Proactiv and all kinds of other acne washes. I have also used prescription drugs such as Tetracyclin, Erythromycin, Retin-a, Duac and all other kinds of acne medications. I have been trying to get rid of these bumps for about two years now. Nothing has ever worked. I've been doing the aspirin mask for about 4 weeks now. The bumps are, for the most part, all gone and my face is clear. It took about two weeks for me to notice a difference. Thanks a lot.

I've had these before, actually, I have them right now. For me, this rash was caused by facial scrub that contained citrus (St. Ives Apricot Scrub and a Neutrogena Citrus scrub). So maybe try changing facial cleanser. Mine went away when I switched to a milder facial wash and moisturized well. It took about 3 days to go away. The other possibilty is if you are using an old powder/makeup application brush. Try a new one!

Do not use exfoliating scrubs with either oil or salicylic acid, they will only make it much worse. I use Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub. First I use Olay Sensitive Skin bar soap and make sure I can feel no oil on my face, than I use a small amount of the Deep Clean scrub, then I wash my face once again before I get out of the shower. This has not only cured my acne, but I rarely get any more of the small skin colored bumps on my face. I also use Queene Helene Cocoa Butter after I get out of the shower each time no matter what.

I can not say i am sure what these are . however about a week and a half ago I came upon this web page because i had the sameproblem with the flesh color bumps that wont go away. Anyways my husband and i were at the mall one day and i asked the clinique lady if she had anything. she informed me that she did not know exactly what the bumps were so she could not tell me what to do. Anyways as i was disapointed I asked if she had an exfoliant as i gathered that may help from all the responses i read. She then asked what kind of skin care did i use and i told her just soap. Well after my husband insisted i bought there skin care kit- a soap, toner, and moisturizer and all i can say is I have seen a difference in my face and those bumps all ready. No there not gone but they have decreased in size and have gotten softer. I cant wait to see what another week does. Well theres my story - hope it helps

The past two days I felt some bumps coming up around the side of my righht eye and now it's on my eyelid and on that whole sside of my face, well not whole side, it's patchy. I'm so scared because I have a job interview next week and I don't want to look like this. I think mine is caused from dust exposure because at my current job I was asked to dfo to assignments and th eplaces wer eall so dusty. I'm just ging to drink lots of water and wash my face.

Ok I have the same problem. I have suffered from acne ever since i was like 8 yrs old!!! bad right??? as ive gotten older it has gotten milder and milder im not 22. I too am suffering with the problem of the acne or small bumps thats the same color as my skin and they are small but really getting on my nerves. After reading what everyone has written. I def believe it has something to do with what we eat. The consuming to much milk i believe is the factor in mine becuz i have heard that milk can be bad for the skin especially like non-fat milk. After doing alot of research I decided to order from acne.org which is a very helpful website the AHA (alpha-hydroxy i think thats how u spell it?) cream lotion that appears to be helpful according to the people on the website. It only cost about $16 dollars and some change. They say it does wonders to acne scarring and helps cell turnover and will make the small bumps dissapear and can be used for spot treatment. When it gets here Iam gonna start using it immediately. If you wanna know how it works feel free to email me at ksande1424@gmail.com and I will let you know. As far as what helps with my acne I take Erythromycin 500mg once a day that helps ALOOOOOT!!! and I use Retin-A micro every other night and I use Aveeno Skin brightening moisturizer which is very good with evening skin tone. I wash with Cera-Ve which is very pricey but good and I also wash with Aveeno Skin brightening scrub which works wonders. and every other night I use Clean & Clear blackhead eraser. I know it seems like alot to use but this regimen I have been using for the last yr or two and it works well for me. Everyones acne is different you just have to find what works well for YOU. I dabble between perscription and over the counter and it has definately done me justice I get alot of compliments on my skin and the glow. I honestly believe you have to take something internally for acne to be cleared. I take vitamins as well. So Goodluck everyone. I HATE ACNE!!! and it has really caused me heartache but o well. Any questions dont forget my email we all have sumthing in common Ksande1424@gmail.com

I had the same thing, small bumps that started with one on my cheek, then across my jawline and then on my chin. they were only on one side of my face for some reason. I tried some suggestions I saw on this board and others, like regenerist, the saylcilic acid, pro retinal, and then I finally tried one suggestion - AFRICAN BLACK SOAP. This stuff is amazing. It only costs $4 and you can get it online or if you have a vitaminshoppe by you, they carry it too. I had these bumps for over a year and nothing worked, within two days of using the soap most of them were gone. One bump that I had for the longest time took a little longer, but in about a week it was all gone, no scars or anything. I have no idea what's in it, and it doesn't seem to work for acne because I still get little breakouts, but for the skin colored bumps, its amazing!!!!

I get these bumps when ever my skin doesn't agree with something. I've had cases here and there that only last a couple days (after I stop doing or using that thing that caused the reaction) for example I have had it from sun exposure the uv rays, from clerisals new pimple night fighting face treatment, over exfoliating or using a product that overly dries out my face etc. It's basically a natural way your body use to tell you it's not liking what your doing or using. Try find out what exactly is the culprit and stop using it, try something more natural from the body shop or the natural food place till your skin calms down as it's in a sensitive state and anything else could make it worse. If it's the sun that's the problem get sun care products like sun screen or moisturisers that have SPF or uv protection etc. I hope this has been some help to you in the mean time try not to do to much to your skin as it can aggravate it more, either way I know you just want to do something to make it better! At night put a damp warm cloth on your face for 5mins to open pores, then use a natural cleanser (preferably one that doesn't foam up to much as that is bad for your skin! Many people don't know that it strips you of your natural oil that carries your skins immunity and that your natural oil helps repair your skin) then pat dry, apply ice to face (and a little longer on affected areas) to close pores now that your have flushed out your pores and calm the effect areas more, then use a good soft natural moisturiser. I'm currently using a great natural range from the body shop that makes my skin feel amazing it's their seaweed range made in Ireland and is 100% natural they are against animal testing and support abuse victims when purchased! :)

    ITWORKED

LISTEN TO THIS! my acne was really bad and i was left with alot of scars... IF i use cream cleansers after a period of time these bumps slowly grow more and more! THE CURE lies in BENZOL PEROXIDE! *****proactive worked but caused over dryness! IT was the benzol peroxide lotion that did the trick! TRUST ME BUMPS ALLL OVER MY FACE it looked soo rough!

    STEP ONE:
    IN THE MORNING

    1. was face with dematologist recomended face wash --> such as SPECTRO JEL
    2. With these bumps you do need a toner! ---> such as Neutrogena refining toner (might break out at first but within 2 weeks pores look tightened)
    3. PROACTIVE MOISTURIZER ONLY the oil free one

DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE MORE THAN TWICE A DAY EVEN IF IT GETS OILY THE NATURAL OIL HELPS HEAL SKIN such as AVEENO pads (big container, cut pads into quaters to get more portions...the pads are too big to be used at once)
    2. DO NOT MOISTURIZE AGAIN
    3. APPLY THE BENZOL POROXIDE LOTION ---> such as proactive repaing lotion

TWICE A WEEK ONLY USE A BLACKHEAD MASK! create a time table so your mask is applyied once in a while not 2 days straight --> such as clean and clear blackhead eraser mask

    DO NOT TOUCH FACE !

YOU WILL BE SOOO SURPRISED im only on day 5 and my skin is ten times clearer

i know how it feels when you feel like you tried everything but really this is the only thing that has ever worked for me!

THe spectro jel has no harsh chemicals its basically soap that keeps natural oils your skin needs in order to prevent more acne from being produced!

REMEMBER YOU NEED TO EXFOLIATE EVERY DAY AT NIGHT
tell me if i helped please and good luck

I have LITERAALLY tried EVERYTHING I could get my hands on. I've had skin issues since i was 13...and now I have scars from acne-it really gets me down and its changed me alot. I tried acne medicines and they seemed to work for a while but now I've got these bumps u guys r talking about!! I keep switching products (from mary kay velocity to proactive and back) and recently tried tea tree toner but it just seemed to make my face more oily!! The tiny raised bumps seem to be getting worse and I'm not even sure if they really are whiteheads?? I really hope the aspirin thing works cause once again I'm about to give up. I'm just tired of wasting so much money on products that don't work for me. How many times a week should I do the mask?

  • by Milanam on November 11th, 2010

I got this 2 days ago...and it almost looks like im allergic to something but so tiny no one can tell but my face isnt as smooth as it always is. I have very good skin so im really confused then I realized 2 days ago ive been using st ives apricot scrub and I usually dont so that could be one reason or my make up brushes...or even something I ate. Long story short I damped a piece of wet paper towel with HOT water and laid it over my face which made the bumps almost dissappear! It felt calmer too. Now just moisturize but careful . Hold off on make up let your skin breathe & def watch what soap you use on your face. Im scared of the scrubs now! Also...clean ur pillow cases which could have dirt or make up residue! If this doesnt go away tomm im guna try a creme but idk which one

I had one small bump on my cheek when I was in my twenties. It looked like a mole that formed around a hair follicle. I would often squeeze it like a pimple. Sometimes some hard white stuff would come out, kind of like a black head. Then a few years later another one popped up, then a few years later two more. After a couple doctor visits I got the answer. It turns out that a hair follicle got clogged and when I would pick at it scar tissue would form under the skin that would rise to the surface just under the skin. As time went on, the more I picked at it the more scar tissue that collect under the surface and around the follicle. My doctor also informed me that this can happen as a normal part of shaving too close, thus cutting the bumps. There is also a condition that is hereditary which causes the skin to form bumps on the arms, neck and face. These bumps will perform like pimples in that when you squeeze them puss comes out. The condition allows for skin pores to clog more easily.

The way to defeat the scar tissue is to have them removed by laser and continue to wash your face on a daily basis with a prescription facial wash that contains a steroid. Using the wash will keep the bumps at bay, but the moment you stop using the wash for any length of time the bumps will return and you'll have to have them removed.

Osteoma Cutis! If you are over 40 and have these skin tone bumps that will not go away this is probably what you have. Very hard to treat. I have tried lasers & micro extraction. Both with so-so results. Still hoping to find a way to get rid of them.

I have these and I am 71 years old. I have never had a skin problem, no allergies, etc.
They appeared about 2 wks ago and I thought they were just from age. They are very tiny, nothing in them, just raised tiny bumps on both sides of my temple line, same color as my skin, but when I put on makeup you can see them more. Sure would like to find out what they are !

Simple and cheap, drink a large glass of water everyday as the FIRST thing you do when you get up in the morning. Before even brushing your teeth and most importantly before eating. After a few weeks of doing this the bumps on my face started to come to the surface (they looked red, swollen and puss-y while coming out to the surface) but then they cleared ad my skin is smooth and has been for the last 6 months. You should keep this up to prevent these bumps too. The only thing that will take a month or so to clear is the spotting from the pimple coming to the surface but there are remedies to help clear those up fast.

i have these too!!! i don't have acne but actually really sensitive skin and after my daughter was born started to get these weird skin color bumps. it does feel like just fine grit sandpaper. i'm using a face wash, toner spray and moisturizers from talulah skincare and an alpha hydroxy mask from sophyto that are working awesome. about 70% better after almost three weeks. i'll have to try the aspiriin mask too!!

Moisturise, if your skin is very dry you should keep it regulary clean and moisturised. Simple's moisturises work really well and are good if you have sensitive skin.
