No, it would be nice if the wealthy paid at least as much as the average working schlub....

    No.

After 8 years of tax cuts in which many of them got off paying no taxes at all, it's time for them to pay their fair share.

No! Opportunity equals obligation. If the rich do not pay their fair share of taxes, than the middle class ends up picking up the slack.

What you are referring to is "progressive" taxation in which at higher earnings levels, big government's take reaches greater percentages. In the 1970s the highest federal marginal tax rates reached over 70%, and those rates reached a lot of higher middle class people. The different states also took a progressive cut of the earnings. Some doctors were refusing to see new patients, since they essentially would have been forking over all the additional revenue to government. Average working stiffs such as myself were disappointed to see overtime earnings taking a bigger bite from the time-and-a-half premium. Ronald Reagan cut those marginal rates down to 28%, fueling a period of economic growth lasting nearly 20 years. Even tax revenues benefited from the engine of prosperity, having doubled during his time as president.
Keep in mind that the federal income tax itself, federal withholding, state income taxes, and state sales taxes were all signed into law by democrat presidents and governors. If you like taxes, or if you benefit from the government-sanctioned extortion, vote democrat.

I do not (surprise surprise!). I think it is an attempt to plug some of the loopholes the wealthy use to pay little or no taxes while providing them an opportunity to pay their fair share and extend themeselves just a tiny eensy weensy little bit. :)

    No,punishment,,indeed.

Where there are rich, there are opportunities for abuse and loopholes for ducking the taxation system, this has been proven time and time again,,don't take my word for it,,do a little looking(an unbiased look at that)and you'll find many instances of this.

I am below the line,I receive instead of pay(I paid for 25 years, now disabled),,at some point there has to be payment for those programs that help people in my position survive,The system today doesn't have a good track record,it is over it's limits, more going out than being taken in.

The economy aside(too many political views as to who did what, etc)The result is the same, somewhere, somehow, there needs to be more income for the system to survive(this includes me and the many in my position)

Taxing the middle class, who are the backbone of the country,is an easy target,,can't tax the poor, they have none to give.Taxing the rich,,,and the super rich,,and the entity's called corporations,,LLC's,Private trust funded babies, those with more than they could ever need,,yeah, the individuals who can not only afford to but would rather hide behind some tax shelter,,to not pay their fair share,,this sounds wrong to whom??only those who are in that position,,it sounds fair to those of us who are way below the line,,it sounds like fair taxation to those who have been on the books for years,,but not to those who's greed has them looking down at us without.

No political finger pointing here,,it's not about politics,,it's about making things fair for all involved,,we are one nation,we are the same people that started this country,,the gap between those that have and those that have not has been growing for hundreds of years..who needs to take, who needs to give?

No. I legitimately think raising taxes for the rich is a good idea because if I was rich, I would want to give back instead of hoard all my money until the day I die.

I know little about government but intuitively I think that though it might not be a deliberate punishment, it sure works out that way. I'm in favor of a fixed tax rate for all who are above a fairly determined poverty level and NO income taxes for those who are below that poverty level. I admit that I haven't thought that through but at this point the method seems to me to be a fair way to go.

that way they will pay their fair share, they have so many loop holes and tax shelters and creative ways of NoT paying taxes that most of them still won't pay their fair share. the rich make the tax laws, it like the drug dealers making the drug laws.

I sometimes do. I'd like to see our federal government spend as much time looking for places to cut back on spending as they do searching for things and people to tax more.
