Help answer this question below.
You can use the add a description area to add to your question and that seems unlimited.
Questions, themselves, are usually pretty short, even with a subject. This way, they can be used on Twitter, they are easier to text in, etc.
When asking, there is a line in the questions screen (above the "Make this question a poll) in which you can add a description by clicking the link at the right end of it. There you can describe the problem more thoroughly. ;-)
I like it a lot. I tend to ask very wordy questions and this helps me to focus on the important things and pare away at the things that are not essential. As to why, well maybe the powers that be are trying to streamline our contributions and eliminate the gingerbread! Happy Wednesday! :)
I don't have an answer for this but I have to agree with you.I think they want us to keep the question to the point so that people will read the whole thing and won't have to spend all day reading someones life story.Although I understand that method,I don't necessarily agree with it.I mean alot of us have many improtant things that need to go into a well thought out question.Perhaps this is more of a question/answer site than a site for advice.Oddly enough people can answer the question in as many words as possible.Oh well what are you going to do?

You're reading Why is there a character limit for questions? I find it very frustrating to come up with a proper question with these limits.
