A wide variety of Sony remote controls exist which can be programmed. These remotes vary in the number of options they have on them and the ease with which you can do things, but all are virtually the same when it comes to using them with your Sony television. Most of these instructions are for a Sony RM-VL9000 remote. All Sony remotes need their buttons to be configured with television they are being used with. This is done by entering in a three digit preset code which is universal with all Sony televisions. Press the "S" key on the remote and hold it until all the component select buttons flash. Press each individual component select button you want to configure. Enter in the code 001, which is universal for all Sony televisions and press "ENT" or "enter." Do this for all the component select buttons until they are all programmed. Press and hold the "S" key on you new remote until the green indicator lights flash. Press the button on the remote you want to program. Then point your old remote head-to-head with your new remote and press and hold both buttons. This will teach your new remote the commands from the old remote and will subsequently work on your television. Sometimes, they don't work or end up doing something different than you intended. To fix this, simply hit reset on the remote while holding the button you want to reprogram and try the process again. To clear commands from both your user and component buttons on your Sony remote control, press the "S" key and then press the key that you want to clear the command from. To reset all functions for a component, press the "S" key. Press "stop." While still holding "stop," press the component button you want to erase the memory of. This is important to do when switching out components from your Sony television, like DVD players, subwoofers or DVR boxes. Be careful not to inadvertently press the "S" key, unless you want to change the program on your Sony remote, as you could cause an unnecessary reprogramming headache.Configure a Preset Code
