    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Family communication is very important for building solid relationships between spouses, among siblings and between parents and children. Good communication can lead to healthier families who are satisfied with their relationships, while poor communication can lead to dysfunction.

    Atmosphere

Family communication creates an atmosphere that encourages openness, honesty and a commitment to fair listening. When family members are permitted to share their true feelings, less conflict can occur because members are more open to resolutions.

    Types of Communication

Clear and direct communication is that which is plainly delivered directly to the intended recipient; masked communication is when messages are murky and unclear, a sign of poor communication.

    Active Listening

Active listening is the process of listening without distractions and with the purpose of understanding the message from the sender; parents who practice active listening with their children convey that everyone is an equal member of the family.

    Conflict Resolution

When conflicts arise, every party involved should be open to compromise.

    Consequences

Poor communication within families can lead to stress, weak emotional ties, lack of problem-solving abilities and marital discord.
