    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Cable television began in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, in 1948. It was called Community Access Television or CATV. John Walson, the owner of the local appliance store, came up with the idea to install antennas on mountains to provide broadcast signals to people in rural areas. Cable television started in communities in Arkansas and Oregon around this same time.
