Well... he broke up with you on twice, and has said outright he can't go any further with this. I'm sorry, but I don't see this relationship as having any future. The "time apart" line is likely just meant to let you down easier. You should focus on making yourself happy for right now, spending time with your family and friends and enjoying your hobbies and freedom.
