Selected by the asker, stonedsober. (What's this?)

You probably got the idea from 1John 1:5 "This is the message we have heard from Jesus and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.”

Light (not just visible light, but electromagnetic radiation) is found throughout the universe, and exists outside our four dimensions (including time). According to quantum physics, light is omnipresent, existing everywhere at one time and allows for an instantaneous transfer of information.

All matter comes from energy (light) and will one day (1 to the 36th power years from now) become light again.

All religions equate divine power with light. In the book of Genesis – God creates Light before he creates the world (matter).

Dr. Lee Baumann is the author of several books on the subject; God at the Speed of Light: The Melding of Science and Spirituality, Window to God (a scientific analysis of the medical diagnoses divined by clairvoyant Edgar Cayce), and The Akashic Light: Religion’s Common Thread (a comparative religious text which examines the supernatural qualities of light throughout the world’s religions).

If we are going to talk of god as light, we will need to redefine the word "god," at least as it is used in the modern western world.

Light is photons, one of the simplest things in the universe. If God is light (which I strongly doubt), God is very, very simple. Light reflects helplessly off many materials because of the working out of Maxwell's Equations.

Who said god was light? And if you take the first part of your question as true, then the second part is superfluous as you have already acknowledged gods existence.

You start your question with the very important word 'IF'.

It's a metaphor, not a literal truth, the existence of light does not prove the existence of the christian god or any other deity.

Well, that is [assuming] there is a god, and there is no compelling reason(s) not to
    deny that light=god.

It doesn't mean the light you see, as in the sun.
    It is
The light that shines through all darkness and
the light that will last for eternity
the light that gives us forgiveness and
the light that gives us hope
the light that comforts in despair..

Jesus is the light of the world isn't he?

    1) There are two basic ways of denying light:
    - you are a born blind person without any light sensitivity whatsoever
    - you can actually perceive light, but you realize that it is only an illusion

    2) Taking an universally existing phenomenon and calling it "God" does not prove the existence of "God" in general, it only proves the existence of this particular "God" - which identifies with this phenomenon (the existence of which was already known anyway).

    For instance:
    God is stupidity.
You cannot deny the existence of stupidity.
So you cannot deny the existence of God.

In this argument, you can replace "stupidity" with "love", "evil", "electricity", or whatever.

    3) If you decide that light is your "God", this does not give you the slightest reason to believe that murder is wrong, for instance.

    4) Let's say that you are a Bible follower. Remember "Let there be light"?
    (Genesis 1:3)
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesis%201&version=NIV

If God is light, who said that? And does it not contradict the presupposition that God always existed? Or is the Bible inaccurate?

    5) This is metaphorical:

    "John 8:12 (New International Version)
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.""

    See also:
    "John 9:5
While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
    and further passages
