I'm stuck at my dad's (Snowmagedden 2010) and my mom's power is out. She has the DVR box, my dad only has 10 channels...
Will the shows I have scheduled to record at her house record even if the power is out? or will I have to wait for them to come online/buy them on iTunes/or On Demand?
You don't play with a full deck, do you?
It won't, unless it's powered by something other than electricity.
If your DVD player runs on gas, then you might be ok. But if it is powered by electricity, then I am afraid there is not much chance of it running while the power is out.
Just hook up a solar panel to it and everything will be fine. If it's cloudy outside ... then just leave a flashlight shining on the solar panel.
Only if you have a generator, solar power. Full deck?
I think everyone here has given the answers you should expect but it could be you mean after the power comes back on.
If this is the case you should only miss the shows that were aired while the power was down, once it comes back on the recorder may still record the rest if you're lucky.
Think about it....no power....no DVR...DUH!!

My AVCHD camcorder's video files have filled my hard drive so I can't add more video files. Any suggestions? Should I use DVD-R discs?

You're reading If the power is out in my house, will the DVR still record the shows I have scheduled?

Now now...play nice.
Not everyone is as technologically savvy as some.

They aren't kidding when they say the power is out. LOL

Hey old school. This question wasn't about technology -- she's talking about a power outage. I couldn't help myself.

@manywords & Wellduh - I don't think the answer to this question is as obvious as you might think.
For example, consider all of those pay-per-view movies that most cable systems now offer. Do you think every last one of those movies is stored in your cable box? Of course not, they're stored on a server at the cable company offices.
It is not unreasonable to wonder if the DVR might work the same way (storing the content somewhere besides the cable box).
Also remember that a lot of younger people do much more "TV watching" on the Internet than on conventional TVs (I personally watched the 2009 NBA draft via the Internet). Again, this is time-shifted viewing without local storage.
There is no fundamental reason why DVRs couldn't work the same way.

Thank you Old School.
That is actually what I was wondering...
You know.. if it was on server or something...
Kinda baffles me a little since I can set show to record over internet and phone...
But I will probably have to buy/wait for them on On Demand/interwebs.

@Tired - You're welcome. People on Answerbag seem to be extra cranky of late. I'm not sure why that is...

Crank crank.:)
Tired -- just know if the power is out, none of the things that plug into the wall will work.
