What percent of Political Agendas are based on spin/distortion and what percent are based on what is best for the people and the country?

Thank you for your answer and Happy Wednesday TT. As far as I can tell the only purpose they serve is to undermine/sabotage/obstruct/prevent the party in charge from accomplishing anything. They are in bed with the
lobbyists for corporations who contribute to their re-election campaigns and are very happy and very proud of the do-nothing agenda. There may be exceptions but they dare not speak out, cooperate or say a kind word because they are attacked and vilified by their own kind if they do. Very sad state of affairs.:(

Good Morning Rosie. I feel it necessary to point out that the Dems have had a Filibuster proof majority and haven't been able to do squat for a year. Also, WHO is in bed with WHO, Exemptions for union members anyone??? Hmmmm. 9000 earmarks in the health care bill, LA purchase and the other bribes for votes...Please!!!!

I do no exempt the Dems from any of that stuff designer...I am equally disenchanted with both sides of the aisle. I think they are identical in their calumny, duplicity and deviousness. Sad, that, isn't it? :(

Patriotism as defined by the palinites, the rushbaughites,the cheneyites and all their neoconite cronies. Patriotism used to be recognizable in the olden days. Now it is an amalgam of paranoia, hatred and ignorance all ground up and reformed into lunchmeat...you know the kind you slap onto white bread, add "American" processed pretend cheese and gobble down as if it were nectar/ambrosia! I don't agree kybear. Disagreement is about undermining "the enemy" and nothing more, nothing less...certainly nothing so noble as wanting to do best for the people. They are greedy and don't mind telling lies and jumping into bed with lobbyists so they can get those gorgeous political contributions so they can win elections so they can continue on as before. It's a good life...they get free trips, good money, healthcare (which is why they don't care about the people having health care..they've got theirs, screw everyone else) and they get to be on the world stage and be noticed. First of all Rosie, my daughter is one of those evil lobbyists and I promise you she isn't hopping into bed with anyone just to get what her organization wants.

What you are really saying is those you disagree with are the ones undermining, lying, cheating and only interested in protecting themselves and their reelection. While that may be true for some on both sides, it is narrow minded, shallow and just plain wrong to do that for all. Most do believe in what they say and believe their position is best for the people they represent. It is possible, believe it or not, for two people to disagree on an issue and for both to believe their position is the best possible outcome. I've served in public office and have been in that position more than once. (fwiw, I had no healthcare provided, received very little in the way of contributions, had one free trip in nine years and that was four hours to see a woodworking school we wanted to recruit.)

You seem to be fairly observant and certainly not afraid to state your views. I would challenge you to run for office and see what it is like. I'm sure you will find that reasonable, honest and decent people will disagree with you at times. It doesn't make them evil. It doesn't make them wrong.

Spin and distortion is for the purpose of undermining "the enemy" and has nothing at all to do with what is best for the people. These politicians are there for the money and power and whether they started out as honorable and honest or whether they were always greedy and self-serving doesn't matter. What matters is what they do for the people and it isn't much and when it happens it is accidental not purposeful. :)

But to "do your best for the country", it is a prerequisite to get power. And to get power it is a prerequisite to spin. Nobody, however virtuous in principle, can achieve power without spinning. This is an inherent fault of democracy, which is the worst possible system for choosing a government (except for all the other systems that have been tried). To achieve power you *have* to wade through the mudbath, and nobody comes out of that clean.

It seems pretty hopeless to me m'dear. No matter who we vote for or what they say, they never ever live up to
