    The Chinese refer to this as "Chi" or "Qi"
    The Japanese refer to it as "Ki"

    ... try putting either into your favourite search engine and see what comes up ...

    It partly refers to air and breath, partly refers to the nerve and brain electrical energy, partly refers to life force at cellular level.

    ... energy is energy, it only works when it is made to work ... so the question of 'does it work' should instead be, 'how does it work' or 'how do we make it work' ... which of course is what the instructor will teach you.
