The people who say this don't know what socialism is. You are living in a 95% capitalist society.
I live in a socialistic country. So, let's define it. When I lose my job, the government pays for me to get another degree and takes care of me and my family until I get a new job. I am always covered by some form of health insurance 100%, either government or private. I have many of the same freedoms enjoyed in the U.S., freedom of speach and religion, etc... I can also own a firearm, but must register it. Education is free. Everyone gets 5 weeks vacation a year, plus Christmas and Summer vacation money.
I still work as hard as I did when I worked in the U.S. Most people I know work about 40 hours a week and do the best job they can, but the difference is that they have much less stress here. Because they don't need to be rich; they don't need a big salary to feel secure.
The big difference is crime, stress and poverty. These are several times lower than in the U.S. And you can feel it. The knowledge that you will be taken care of, even if you never use it, is a great stress reliever.
No - I believe we are becoming more of a fascist state than a socialist one....but the change is very slow.
No.
I think we're well on our way to become more competitive in the World market. Because every other civilized industrial nation already has National Healthcare.
i have to agree with prunesquallor.america is a capitalist country, the founding fathers never wanted that but thats the way it is now and will probably always be
We are so far away from being a socialist country. Capitalism and free market ideals rule this country.
Yes, all the taking from the poor to give to the rich gave that one away
We elected Obama as President. We are THERE.
