I am usually o.k. with a difference of opinion. Let's face it. It would be a pretty boring world if we all had the same thoughts and opinions. It also makes a difference on how they disagree. You and I have differed a couple of times in our opinions but it was done with respect. Unfortunately eveyone does not respond the same.

Depends on the question. If it's something that I'm really opinionated about I'd usually start a debate in the comments threat.
It often eventually turns into a mass debate.

If I ask a question that asks for opinion (most of my questions on AB have been the conversational kind, anyway) I expect and even encourage different opinions.
It would be improductive and insincere of me to vehemently disagree with the opinions I receive as I make an effort in trying to avoid "loaded" questions, meaning I tend to keep them general. I make my particular point of view clear sometimes in comments, not in the question itself.
If the answer is contrary to my way of thinking but presented in a civli manner, in a convincing fashion, I'm rarely confrontational about it.

People are free to questions and disagree but if I'm asked I recommend keeping questions general in tone, free of "bait" or slant.

- What do you consider bait or slant? There are some controversial topics that by their very nature are going to get very subjective responses..e.g., "do you believe in abortion"? How can you ask the question without receiving slanted replies? You cannot. If you avoid "bait/slant" then you are avoiding many of the most hotly debated subjects aren't you? - Agreed. Let me elaborate: I was thinking more on the lines of something like: "I'm against abortion, I believe abortionists should be killed themselves, who's with me?" or something like that.
  
  "Do you believe in abortion?" is neutral in tone, encourages discussions that might not always end in civil terms but if that happens it's not the fault of the questioner, it's a valid and valuable Q.

- To Barcaluv... Happy Wednesday to you! The way questions are framed and the word choices made are the key. But some people will take a very benignly stated question and run with it in a negative way. Sometimes people don't read every word in the question so the shotgun or hipshot response results from something that was never asked in the first place! :)

  @Rosie: I agree. Sometimes people don't get the question or misjudge the intent of it. Other times people already have strong opinions and shoot the messenger by mistakingly attack the asker, not the issue. Other times the person asking the question might be over-sensitive.
  The hot-button questions are frequently a roll of the dice, IMO.

Comparatively I have not asked many questions. The answers I got for those few questions were not up to my satisfaction. Most of the people do not appreciate or reply serious questions.

- Any time you ask a question my friend you open yourself up to a variety of responses. When I ask a serious question I appreciate serious answers. Sometimes I ask a whimsical/silly question and I love it when the responders answer with something lighthearted and whimsical. You cannot control who answers or how they answer but I think it's worth asking questions because that's how you find out what people think. Most people have something worthwhile/valuable to share and the few that don't just answer for effect, not content! Thank you for your answer Brahmanyan and Happy Saturday! :)

I'm fine with it. I learned many years ago not everyone is going to agree all the time. It's the disagreements that make the world interesting.
