I support decriminalization for ALL drugs...1.) Am I left wing or right wing...2.) Have I ever been impacted negatively by drugs?

• Well, the issue found its way into politics but as a general rule a conservative would agreee and say the government has no business banning substances from free people...individual liberty is as right wing as it gets man. Usually if someone has a truely conservative POV they will agree, but most didn't lose a 20 year old brother to drugs....and still hold true conservative principles that the government should BUTT OUT. I mean, as demonized as drugs are my brother is still dead and spent ages 13-20 heavilly addicted..and now he is dead. War on drugs is working great right?

• Could not have said it better myself! But I wish to add that the financial and health effects of hard drugs are dramatic. My tax dollars pay for the treatment and housing programs of junkies, and the prisons they end up in when they run out of money.
  
  Not to mention that dirty needles are a public health hazard for everyone in addition to meth labs which are 100% toxic to the environment. The only way to clean them up is to demolish the building the lab was housed in. If injected drugs were legalized the rate of Hep would go up as well as the crime rate when druggies lose control of their jobs and lives.
  
  I personally have no problems with pot as long as it is smoked through a bong which filters out most of the harmful particles. I find it hypocritical that most states are cracking down on cigarettes but turn a blind eye towards pot.

• If drugs were legalized, the drug suppliers would become accountable to the law, thus deaths from overdose would fall, addicts would no longer need to share needles, so rates of hepatitis would actually fall, drug labs would have to adhere to environmental regulations, and as for losing control of their jobs and their lives, how many musicians have lived highly successful lives whilst completly off their chumps on drugs? Pretty much all of them from the Beatles onward.
  Stigmatising addicts as "junkies" simply reinforces their sense of self loathing, pushing them to further extremes of addiction and criminal activity.
  And yes, I do have personal experience of drugs and drug users, one of whom regretably died.

• A drug dealers nightmare is legalization. An underwear makers dream is anti-underwear laws. Government intervention in the private market disturbs the markets natural ability to correct its own problems.

  Good guess on #1 BTW....so you agree with me that leftists want to tell you what you can and can not purchase in a free market because they know what is good for you more than you know for yourself...very good !

• I agree that your interpretation addresses the basic stereotype of the right and the left, but not all people. For instance, I consider myself to be a bleeding heart liberal, but I am all for decriminalization.
