I think it's okay IF the roads are blocked with cars. Not if the teachers want to go to the game. Just get subs.

I'm of two minds here. One is that it's harmless overall: The kids will miss an hour or two of school, but will get to go in more refreshed (if they stay up till the end of the game) than if they'd had to be there on time. We're going to get a big snowstorm where I live; that could cause school delays too, though obviously for a more tangible reason. Still, I don't think a 1 or 2 hour delay overly negatively impacts the kids' educations.
The other mind, though, is that this is a slippery slope. Do you need a delay if their team is in the World Series, a potentially 7-day event? Do the championships in the NBA and NHL count? What about the American Idle or Lost finales?
If this remains an exceptionally rare thing, I think I'm okay with it. Ultimately, though, it's one of those things where — if it does snowball — it may be too late to reverse course.
